Why would I choose an in-home photography session for my family?

Those of you who follow my blog know that I am BIG lover of outdoor photo sessions. The space to run wild, the natural backdrop, the beautiful light at golden hour - these are all great examples of why I love shooting outdoors.

There are a few reasons though why I would recommend choosing an at home family photography session rather than an outdoor one.

  1. The weather - We all know how unpredictable Melbourne weather is and especially in the colder months it can get quite uncomfortable outside. So if you want to make sure that your session can go ahead no matter what the weather brings, an indoor photo session is a great option.

  2. Session times - You get the most beautiful light outdoors either early in the morning after sunrise or in the evening before sunset. Shooting in the middle of the day is something I wouldn’t recommend even if the location offers plenty of shade. So, if early mornings or evenings don’t work for you, choose an indoor session. The best times for these are from mid-morning to early afternoon, when your home will have the best light.

  3. Your home is part of the family - your family home is such an important part of your kids’ lives and when you will look back at your photos in years to come, it will be wonderful to see it as the backdrop of your session.

  4. A calmer session - my outdoor photography sessions are a lot of fun and usually involve running, jumping and exploring. If you are after a calmer type of session, an indoor session works great. Snuggle up on the sofa, read a book together or let your kids show off their favourite toy - in-home sessions have a very homely, relaxed feel about them.

Here are few photos of a recent in-home family photography session I did, and I just love their calm and cosy nature.
