How to Prepare Young Kids for a Sunset Photo Session

Are you planning to book a sunset outdoor family photo shoot, but you are worried that it might be too late for your kids' bedtime? Don't worry! I'm here to share some tips on how to have a fun and relaxed family photo session, even if it goes beyond your kids' usual bedtime.

As a Melbourne family photographer, I love to take photos during golden hour (the hour before the sun sets) because the light is just beautiful during that time of day but I know that parents often have concern that their children won't be able to handle the late hour and may be too tired or grumpy during the photoshoot.

But don’t stress! I have good news - your kids will do great, and I will guide you on how to prepare them for a successful photoshoot, even if it means staying up a bit past their usual bedtime.

#1 Have a late nap
A photo session is so much easier when your kids are well-rested and in a good mood, so that they can have a good time. Consider letting your kids take a later nap in the afternoon so they're not too tired during the photo shoot.

#2 Have a laid-back day
Try to avoid scheduling any stressful activities or appointments on the day of the shoot. Give your kids a chance to relax and play so they're in a happy and carefree mood for your family photo session.

#3 Keep 'em fed and hydrated
Snacks and water are a must during a sunset photo session. Hungry and thirsty kids can get pretty grumpy, so make sure to have plenty of provisions on hand. And a favourite snack used as bribery for after the session sometimes works wonders too. ;)

#4 Trust the photographer
I'll be directing the shoot, so you can relax and enjoy the experience with your kids. Trust that I'll capture those special moments that you'll cherish for years to come.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that your kids are in the best possible mood for the photo session and will have a fun time, and that means that the shoot will be a success. As your photographer, I'll take care of all the technical details, so you can simply enjoy the moment with your family.

If you're ready to book a sunset family photo shoot with me, I'd love to work with you and capture some beautiful memories of your family. With my experience as a family photographer, I know how to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere that allows your family's personality to shine through in each shot.
