The 3 most popular locations for family photo shoots in Melbourne’s Inner West

We are so lucky in Melbourne’s Inner West to have such beautiful locations right on our doorstep that we really don’t have to travel far to get the perfect backdrops for my family photo sessions.

If you can’t decide on where to have your family photos taken, here’s a little list of tried and tested photo locations in the Inner West, where I love to shoot.

Williamstown Beach and Botanic Gardens

This is by far my clients’ most popular location - and I really love it too! It’s amazing to have the gardens just across the road from the beach so that you can easily do both in one session and get a great variety of images with a totally different feel. There is plenty of shade in the gardens too, which makes it perfect for the start/end of the session when the sun is still (or already if your are doing a morning session) too bright to shoot on the beach.

Next to the beach there is a little boat ramp, which has great textures like old wooden planks or a rusty railing, which I love to add a little more to my images.

Here are some of a recent morning photo session that I did over there.

Newport Lakes

If you love native trees and bush with the sun poking through the leaves, some nice rocks for texture and a lake to make it all look romantic and beautiful, look no further! I LOVE shooting at Newport Lakes, especially in the early evenings when the sun is at just the right angle and everything just comes together.

The location is great for family photo sessions with young kids too. There’s plenty of space to run around and you don’t have to change location too much to get a great variety of backdrops.

Pipemakers Park Maribyrnong

What I love about this park is that the little garden next to the Living Museum of the West gives it some unique backdrops that you can’t find anywhere else but you also have the usual bush/trees and a little lake for lots of variety in your images. In the garden you’ll find mosaics, Roman-looking pillars and vine leaf tunnels with the sun shining through which I love. So, if you are looking for something a little bit different that still has a strong nature feel, this park is perfect!

Do you have a favourite spot in the inner west where you would love to have your family photos taken? Let me know and we’ll make it happen. I love trying out new locations and we are definitely spoilt for choice in our beautiful part of the world.
